Concerned about Air Quality? Take Advantage of Clean Transportation Options

It’s only mid-December but we’ve already had a few inversions– and the dirty air they trap– this season.

Luckily this week’s winter storm has cleared out the inversion and the worst of the poor air, but it’s a reminder of why it’s all the more important to be mindful of how we can each reduce our contribution to the muck.

Because transportation accounts for 48% of the air pollution we see on any given wintertime inversion day, choosing cleaner ways to get around is one of the most impactful steps we as individuals can take

With that in mind, we’d like to share a couple of exciting options that are available right now to promote more sustainable travel.  

Hive Pass Discounts

Salt Lake City residents can apply for the HIVE pass. The Salt Lake City program, in partnership with UTA, offers easier access to mass transit by reducing the cost of the monthly adult pass by 50%.

 Residents can purchase the Hive Pass for only $42 a month which gives pass holders unlimited rides on UTA buses, TRAX light rail, and the S-Line streetcar. Hive Passes also now include a one-year GREENbike membership for free! 

Your home address must be in Salt Lake City boundaries to be eligible for a Hive Pass and here is the website for more information.

Live Electric EV Discount

If you are in the market for a vehicle, consider an electric one! 

All-electric vehicles don’t have a tailpipe and so don’t emit local air pollution. That’s great news if you’re concerned about air quality.

But did you know EVs also significantly reduce the overall greenhouse gasses emitted from your car, even when accounting for the upstream impacts of burning coal?

EVs also significantly reduce fuel costs, which keeps money in drivers’ pockets and helps keep money in the local economy by reducing the need for imported gasoline

So if you’re looking for a new vehicle, check out the 2018 Live Electric EV discount that has been extended until January 2nd! It is a $3,000 discount on 2018 Nissan Leaf models for all Rocky Mountain Power customers and Utah State employees.

Utah Clean Energy, Rocky Mountain Power, and Utah Clean Air Partnership (UCAIR) have partnered to offer the Live Electric EV discount program and the discount is available for 3 different models of the 2018 Nissan Leaf. 

All you need to do is find the Leaf you want and take a recent copy of your Rocky Mountain Power utility bill to a participating Nissan dealership. It’s that simple!
