Open Streets Event This Saturday
Saturday, May 4th is going to be a great day for green events in Salt Lake City. We’ve previously posted about the return of the Live Green SLC! Festival to Library Square, and now we are turning our attention to another fantastic event, hosted by our friends in the Salt Lake City Transportation Division.
Salt Lake City is joining the national Open Streets movement with its first ever Open Streets festival this Saturday. Enjoy 1.5 miles of downtown streets opened exclusively to walking, biking, jogging and other fun family-friendly activities!
About Open Streets
Open Streets events temporarily open a series of city streets exclusively to walking, jogging, bicycling, rollerblading, and more. These events encourage new people to try walking and bicycling in a comfortable and fun environment.
Open Streets events promote community pride, local business, air quality, and physical activity, while encouraging the use of streets as a public space for the community to interact.
Vendors stationed all along the Open Streets route, which takes place on 300 South/Broadway from the Intermodal Hub at 600 West to 200 East. One block of 200 East will also be included, and will connect to Library Square and the Live Green SLC! Festival. Activities will begin at the Rio Grande Depot and continue along the rest of the route. Some things to look forward to:
- Yoga Classes every hour on 200 East, hosted by Salt Lake Power Yoga
- SLAM at the Rose Wagner Theater
- Free skate rentals on Main Street, provided by SkateNow Shop
- Lawn games, hosted by SLUG Magazine
And plenty of other family-friendly fun!
